My child-hood friend quit his well entrenched job of almost 15 years, to join an upcoming startup.
Reason – He had long been thinking to quit the comfort zone, but due to family and society, could not muster enough courage to do so, all these years, until now.
He also thought that at the age of 52, he would be able to gather good knowledge about the latest Technologies, that were being used, by his future organization.
In unknown waters
Few months back, after an emotional farewell from his last organization, the D Day arrived, when he walked in to the new office.
Immediate Reaction – No cubicle workplace, no room for senior executives, except the owners of the company. All Employees are equipped with laptops, and can sit anywhere on the few long tables and chairs. HR policies are volatile and changed frequently depending on the whims and fancies of the owners.
Meeting with the owners – During recruitment phases, My friend was given the impression, that he was being recruited for a technical role. He was to be a part-time manager. On the day of joining, after the formal greetings from the owner, Surprise!! Surprise!!.
Expectation from management – Pure People Manager, his technical skills took up the backseat. What is the better English word for this lie, Is that Cheating?
HR does not give him the appointment letter, the joining day. Neither does he gets his ID card. He is given those after 2 weeks from date of joining. No regrets nor explanation, from the HR manager.
Instead of industry standards of 3 months of probation, his letter of appointment, said 6 months. Reason – no convincing reasons was given by owners and HR. They kept him rotating (Maybe buying time could be the original reason).
