Year 2003, age 31 – My visit to India from US where i had been working, for the last couple of years.
i was still feeling uneasy and lot fatigued than usual, even after a full day of rest for Jet Lag, Parents insisted in meeting with our neighborhood doctor. I went to him after a lot of persuasion. Luckily he turned out to be my senior batch-mate in school.
After a bit of chitchat, he started asking me about my eating habits, daily lifestyle, and finally details about my recent symptoms.
He suggested of getting the Fasting Blood Test to be done the next day.
The next day, morning, i went to his clinic, for the test to be conducted. It took about 15 – 20 minutes. Asked, to comeback the day after, for the blood report and further discussion.
Fasting Blood test diagnosed, I had a condition – hypercholesterolemia or in simple terms high cholesterol(LDL Cholesterol).
The doctor advised to strictly avoid my favorite chocolate cookies, peanut butter(always used generous amount of it, in between bread for a good sandwich), fried meat & vegetables. Also advised to watch the weight factor.
He suggested for a regimen of 30 mins daily exercise, and gave me some pills – Statin. Pills to be take as per dosage.
Upon asking, whether the pills could be avoided, I received an answer in the negative.
Matter of fact, I was shattered when I found out that the pills had to be taken daily the rest of my life.
Left for the US after a week. Reached Colorado Springs, CO, midnight, after a long 18 hour flight. Being dead tired, so slept like a log for the next 10 hours.
